Phil Laughlin was born in the Finger Lakes region of New York. After graduating from Worcester Museum Art School he began to explore modern realism. He later moved to New York City where he studied at the Art Students league and found employment as a graphic designer. He continued to paint in Manhattan, discovering new ideas and standards of artistic professionalism. In 1986, Phil moved his family to the beautiful green mountain state of Vermont, and gradually rebalanced his work schedule to once again favor landscape painting. Along the way he discovered the rich tradition of New England painting built by generations of artists and has joined other artists working within and extending that tradition
