RICHARD A CHASE (1892-1985) FRESH SNOW 16 x 20 Oil on Canvas $2800 Framed
Richard Chase was born in Columbus, Kansas, and from 1919 to 1925, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago where he moved in 1918 and lived until 1981. A painter, especially known for Chicago scenes, Richard Chase recreated the urban environment of that city including skyscrapers, bridges and industrial scenes in a manner that showed a city full of energy and future promise. For Chicago's 1933 Century of Progress Exposition, intended to counter the pessimism from the Depression, Chase was selected as an illustrator and muralist. Throughout his career Chase also painted richly colored landscapes and still lifes. Sources: Elizabeth Kennedy, Chicago Modern 1893-1945 Peter Hastings Falk (ed.), Who Was Who in American Art
