Charles Francoise Daubigny, 1817 - 1878. A highly regarded artist associated with the 'Barbizon School'. Daubigny was highly influential in connecting the work of the landscape masters of his own generation and the impressionists and their contemporaries. It was in the 1850's that his landscapes began to achieve popular success, although many critics never became comfortable with the broad paint handling , which was often criticized for being sketchy and unfinished. His life and work can be easily researched on the net. Collected worldwide and highly regarded as amongst the best of the Barbizon painters.

This beautifuly rich and sumptuous landscape depicting a wonderful sunset is new to the market. Signed and dated lower left: 'Daubigny 1865'. It has been laid professionally onto canvas by a restorer. It is sold in its original gilded frame.
